Background Information

Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that occur on a weekend are moved to the following Monday.  May Day Bank Holiday is sometimes referred to as Early May Bank Holiday.  There are regular calls to make St. George's Day, April 23, a public holiday for England only, in a manner analogous to what was done for Northern Ireland (St. Patrick's Day, March 17), and most recently, Scotland (St. Andrew's Day, November 30). However, nothing seems likely to happen in the near future.  England International Codes GB and GBR (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .uk (ICANN national top-level internet domain). Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of England information and news: Bank of England (England central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (England maps, demographics and economic statistics), and Wikipedia (includes England commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
