Governing Law: Official public holidays in the Marshall Islands are regulated by Title 1, Ch. 9 of the Public Holidays Act 1988 (An Act to make provision for the declaration of Public Holiday in the Republic of the Marshall Islands).  Weekend Public Holidays: As per §902 of the 1988 Public Holidays Act, public holidays that fall on a Saturday are observed on the proceeding Friday and public holidays that fall on a Sunday are observed on the following Monday.  President’s Day is a public holiday held on November 17 in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) in honor of the birthday of the RMI’s founding father, the late President Iroijlablab Amata Kabua.  Memorial Day is a public holiday marking the anniversary date of March 1, 1954, when Bikini Atoll became ground zero,as the United States conducted its largest ever nuclear test, whose radioactive fallout spread quickly, drifting toward Rongelap, an inhabited island nearby.
