Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in the Federated States of Micronesia are regulated by Section 603 of title 1 of the Code of the Federated States of Micronesia, as amended in 2004 by the Congressional Bill No.13-97, C.D.1 (Public Law No.13-38) which added Veterans' Day to the list of national public holidays.  Weekend Public Holidays: Generally, federal/national public holidays that fall on Saturday are observed on the proceeding Friday and public holidays that fall on Sunday are observed on the following Monday. However, regional public holidays do not seem to follow the same pattern.  Government Public Holidays: In October 2003, section 603 of title 1 of the Code of the Federated States of Micronesia, as previously amended, was amended to grant the President the discretion to allow employees of the National Government to observe holidays other than the five National holidays, and for other purposes (NB: six national public holidays, as of March 2010).  Pohnpei State Public Holidays: Good Friday Pohnpei Liberation Day September 11 Pohnpei Constitution Day November 8  Yap State Public Holidays: Yap Day March 1 Yap State Constitution Day December 24  Chuuk State Public Holidays: Chuuk State Constitution Day October 1 Thanksgiving Day November (fourth Thursday)  Kosrae State Public Holidays: Kosrae Constitution January 11 Gospel Day August 21 Kosrae Liberation Day September 8.  Micronesia International Codes FM and FSM (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .fm (ICANN national top-level internet domain).
