XV4 Database Server Required Configuration

Scroll Prev Up Next More

The database server hosts the database that is shared among all your users, whether they are on a local network (LAN) at the Main Site or at a remote site, connecting to the Main Site via the internet (WAN).

For more details on the various possible work configurations, see network architecture.

The required configuration for the Database Server of the XV4 version of Q++Studio, is as follows.

Platform

Q++Studio Servers can be installed on a Virtual Machine, such as VMware, or a physical PC-based computer (not on an emulator such as Parallels)..

Processor

Pentium Quad-Core processor 2.0 GHz.

RAM

Database server: 16 GB

Operating System

The recommended version of Windows to use on the PC used as database server for the XV4 64-bit version of Q++Studio, is Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 2016 Server (64-bit), or Windows 2019 Server (64-bit), or Windows 2022 Server (64-bit) (more details).

Logon

You must be logged on as Administrator on any computer on which you want to install and run the Q++Studio Server.

Screen

A 15 inch display with a screen resolution of 800 by 600 and 256 colors is sufficient.

Disk Space

You must have a second hard drive at D:\ or E:\, with at least 500GB free space, on which to install the Q++Studio Server.

This drive D:\ or E:\ can be either physical or logical, but it must be present.

This drive D:\ or E:\ must be shared completely in read/write mode so that all workstations can map their Q:\ drive to it.

Network

A fixed internal IP address and good quality gigabit network card.

If you are planning to have remote users connecting to the server via the internet, then the server should have a fixed externally accessible IP address, and the firewall should allow external TCP/IP connections to that address on ports 16004 and 16005.

Bandwidth

For LAN connections, bandwidth requirements are negligible.

For WAN connections (users connecting to the server via the internet), the database server's internet connection should be able to handle upload volume of about 100MB per day per remote workstation. This translates to about 100 KB/s available upload speed and a ping of less than 40 msec from any remote user to the remote database server.

Security

See anti-virus and firewall settings.

Separately Purchased Software

none.

Additional Requirements

1.Should be a stand-alone computer, not used by anyone.

2.The computer on which the Q++Studio server software is installed must be logged-on as Administrator, and running, at all the times.

3.The entire D:\ drive must be shared to be accessed by all the Q++Studio workstations, as Administrators.

4.Q++Studio users may need to physically access that computer once in awhile, to perform updates or reboot it.

5.The Q++Studio Server must have access to the internet (via SMTP and FTP) at night, usually between 2-4am.

6.As the the server runs 24/7, it should be located so as to prevent overheating.

To allow technical support to assist you, if needed, please install TeamViewer exactly as described here, using the download links of that page. Please always install the Q++Studio bespoke version of TeamViewer as described here or we will not be able to assist you remotely.
