Scanned GridTemplate Information

Scroll Prev Up Next More

To edit the properties of a template, select it in the templates explorer, and click on the Properties button, as shown on the right.

Additionally, when you select a template, the template information panel which occupies the bottom half of the screen, displays information about the template, and the QuarkXPress or InDesign document from which it originated.

Template Information

toolbar

At the top-left of the Template Information section, is the Template Information Toolbar containing 3 buttons.

Regenerate can be used to regenerate the GridTemplate, as a QuarkXPress or InDesign file, from the database. This is useful if the original GridTemplate was deleted or damaged.

View opens the current GridTemplate in QuarkXPress or InDesign.

Used in script: lists all the scripts that use the selected template.

Below these buttons, you will find information about the creation and last modification dates of both the selected GridTemplate and Template, and on the right, is the full path of the underlying QuarkXPress or InDesign file, its version number, and the version of QuarkXPress or InDesign used to last scan it.

Template Colors

At the bottom-left of the Templates Explorer is a list of all the colors defined in the current GridTemplate (list of colors defined in all the QuarkXPress or InDesign documents used in the current script can be found in the colors property).

The default QuarkXPress or InDesign system colors, those which cannot be deleted, are identified by a gray background.

Right-click on this grid to copy the list of colors and values to the clipboard.

Click on any of the column headers to sort the color list accordingly.

The numerical value to the right of each color name corresponds to the RGB value associated with each color and is used to preview the color in the Q++Studio user interface.

Note that macro colors are displayed using a generic mesh, regardless of the way these colors were defined in QuarkXPress or InDesign.

QuarkXPress

Each color's RGB value can change from one workstation to the next, based on the QuarkXPress preferences of that workstation. To change text color in a macro, we recommend using the macro function FormatText and using the COLOR() text attribute with the name of the color.

InDesign

Colors in InDesign can only be accessed by name, so when using the macro function FormatText and using the COLOR() text attribute, make sure that you use the color name exactly as it appears in the list above (including uppercase and lowercase characters), to avoid message 185870.

Note also that the None color can be applied to text in InDesign, as opposed to QuarkXPress, in which it is impossible to apply the None color to text.

Page Previews and Contents

The first tab on the bottom-right of the templates explorer displays thumbnail pictures of each page of the scanned template.

When you change preview page, the list of all the textboxes in that page gets updated. Similarly, when you select one of the textboxes in the list, a textual preview of the textbox contents appears in the rightmost part of the information panel.

The Hide objects on invisible layers checkbox allows you to filter-out all the objects that are located on invisible layers, and which by default are ignored during diary generation.

You can also see these previews by double-clicking on any diarygridline or quarkpages scriptline in the script editor, or, when in the Scripts Explorer, by right-clicking on any script and selecting the preview main grid or preview all grids menu items.

Fonts

The second tab on the bottom-right of the templates explorer displays the list of fonts used in the QuarkXPress or InDesign file corresponding to the currently selected template.

Right-click on this grid to copy the list of fonts and their status to the clipboard.

The main possible values for the Fonts STATUS column are:

STATUS_OK_USED

The font is used in the selected QuarkXPress or InDesign document and is installed on the current workstation

MISSING_USED

The font is used in the selected QuarkXPress or InDesign document but it is not installed on the current workstation (use the installed fonts tool to view the full list of available fonts on your computer). This status would lead to the scanning warning 182810

MISSING_NOT_USED

The font is not used in the selected QuarkXPress or InDesign document's text, but it is used in part of its definitions (usually this status comes from style sheets that are defined with the mentioned font, but which are not used in the current QuarkXPress or InDesign document). This status would also lead to the scanning warning 182810

The status codes STATUS_OK_NOT_USED and MISSING_NOT_USED refer to fonts that are defined in the current QuarkXPress or InDesign document, but which are not actually used.

Usually this status comes from style sheets that are defined, but not used in the current QuarkXPress or InDesign document, but which nonetheless refer to that font. We always recommend deleting any and all style sheets that are not used in a QuarkXPress or InDesign document.

You can see all the fonts used by all the QuarkXPress or InDesign files of all your scripts, both in diarygridline or quarkpages scriptlines, using the scripts usage dialog accessible either from the scripts/data reports menu of the main window, or by right-clicking on one or more scripts in the Scripts Explorer.

Images

The third tab on the bottom-right of the templates explorer displays the list of images used in the QuarkXPress or InDesign file corresponding to the currently selected template.

Right-click on this grid to copy the list of images, their status, and their full path, to the clipboard.

The main possible values for the Images STATUS column are:

STAT_OK

This is the perfect case; the image is located where QuarkXPress or InDesign expects it to be, and that image has not been modified since it was last updated in the QuarkXPress or InDesign document

STAT_MISSING

The image cannot be found where QuarkXPress or InDesign expects it to be. This status would correspond to the scanning warning 182095

STAT_MODIFY

The image is located where QuarkXPress or InDesign expects it to be, but that image has been modified since it was last updated in the QuarkXPress or InDesign document. This would correspond to the scanning warning 182100

There are also additional status codes which are much more infrequent, and whose meaning is obvious from their name; STAT_INUSE, STAT_NOACCESS, STAT_CANTOPEN, STAT_WRONGTYPE, STAT_EMBEDDED, STAT_XTMISSING, and would correspond to the scanning warning 182105.

Style Sheets (QuarkXPress) and Styles (InDesign)

The fourth tab on the bottom-right of the templates explorer displays the list of style sheets defined in the QuarkXPress file, or list of styles defined in the InDesign file, corresponding to the currently selected template.

Right-click on this grid to copy the list of Style or Style Sheets and their type to the clipboard.

We always recommend deleting any and all style sheets or styles that are not used from any QuarkXPress or InDesign document used in Q++Studio.

QuarkXPress

If you specify that you wish to be warned about inconsistent character style sheets or paragraph style sheets, within the QuarkXPress templates used by a script, then this verification for character style sheets and paragraph style sheets occurs at run-time (during diary generation).

InDesign

For InDesign files, object styles, table styles, and cell styles are also listed.

You will also be warned about inconsistent styles (character, paragraph, object, table, or cell), within the InDesign templates and information pages used by a script, but this verification occurs at design-time (while working on your script, before diary generation)

In addition, as shown in the above screenshot, if you place your mouse over any of the listed InDesign styles, then a popup window appears listing all the elements that define that style.

Dashes and Stripes (QuarkXPress) and Stroke Styles (InDesign)

The fifth tab on the bottom-right of the templates explorer displays the list of dashes and stripes, or stroke styles, defined in the QuarkXPress or InDesign file corresponding to the currently selected template.

Right-click on this grid to copy the list of dashes and stripes or strokes to the clipboard.
